Terms of Use

Last updated: October 6, 2026

These Terms of Use ("Terms") govern your use of the Cardo app, website, and related services ("Cardo" or the "Service").

Cardo is operated by:

Sarp Semih Altunel

When you create a Cardo account after being presented with these Terms and accept them, these Terms become part of the agreement between you and Cardo.

If you do not agree to these Terms, please do not create an account or use the Service.

1. About Cardo

Cardo is a learning application that helps users create, organize, study, and review flashcards.

Cardo may provide features such as spaced repetition, learning progress, study reminders, and optional AI-assisted generation or translation of learning content.

2. Eligibility and your account

Some Cardo features require an account.

If you are not legally able to enter into this agreement on your own under the law applicable to you, you may use Cardo only with any consent or authorization required from your parent or legal guardian.

You agree to provide accurate information where required and to keep your account credentials secure.

You are responsible for activity performed through your account to the extent that you are responsible for that activity.

You may not use another person's account without authorization or intentionally interfere with another user's access to Cardo.

If you believe your account has been compromised, please contact support@trycardo.com.

3. Your content

Cardo allows you to create and store learning content, including flashcards, categories, notes, examples, translations, tags, and related materials ("User Content").

You retain any rights that you have in your User Content.

To the extent necessary to provide Cardo, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive right to host, store, reproduce, process, and transmit your User Content for the purpose of operating, maintaining, securing, and providing the Service and the features you choose to use.

For example, this permission allows Cardo to store and synchronize your flashcards or transmit relevant content to an AI service provider when you actively request an AI-assisted feature.

This does not transfer ownership of your User Content to Cardo.

Your learning content is currently private to your account unless a feature explicitly states otherwise.

You are responsible for the User Content you submit and for ensuring that your use of that content does not unlawfully infringe the rights of others.

4. AI-assisted features

Cardo may provide optional features that use artificial intelligence to generate, complete, translate, or otherwise assist with learning content.

When you actively use such a feature, information necessary to perform your request may be processed by an external AI service provider as described in our Privacy Policy.

AI-generated content may be inaccurate, incomplete, misleading, inappropriate, or unsuitable for your particular purpose. You should review AI-generated content before relying on it.

Cardo does not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or reliability of AI-generated content.

You remain responsible for deciding whether and how to use AI-generated content.

You must not intentionally use Cardo's AI features to violate applicable law, infringe the rights of others, disrupt the Service, circumvent usage limits, or facilitate unlawful or harmful activity.

5. Acceptable use

You may use Cardo for lawful personal, educational, and other legitimate purposes.

You must not:

  • use Cardo in violation of applicable law
  • attempt to gain unauthorized access to Cardo, another user's account, or connected systems
  • interfere with, damage, overload, or disrupt the Service
  • introduce malicious code or use Cardo to distribute malware
  • circumvent technical restrictions, security measures, or usage limits
  • use automated means to access or extract data from the Service in a manner that materially interferes with the Service or is not authorized by us
  • impersonate another person or falsely claim authority to act on behalf of another person
  • use Cardo to unlawfully infringe intellectual property, privacy, or other rights of third parties

Cardo is a language and learning tool. The mere creation or study of words, phrases, or educational material that may be offensive, sensitive, or controversial does not by itself violate these Terms.

6. Cardo intellectual property

Except for User Content and third-party materials, Cardo and its software, design, branding, interfaces, graphics, and original content are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.

These Terms do not transfer ownership of Cardo or its intellectual property to you.

You may use Cardo only as permitted by these Terms and applicable law.

You may not copy, sell, license, distribute, or commercially exploit Cardo's software, branding, or proprietary materials except where permitted by law or with our prior permission.

7. Availability, updates, and changes to Cardo

We aim to keep Cardo available and reliable but cannot guarantee uninterrupted or error-free operation.

Cardo may occasionally be unavailable because of maintenance, technical problems, security measures, third-party outages, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.

We may make changes to Cardo where there is a valid reason to do so, including:

  • maintaining or improving security
  • correcting technical defects
  • complying with legal or regulatory requirements
  • adapting Cardo to changes in operating systems, platforms, APIs, infrastructure, or technical dependencies
  • maintaining compatibility or interoperability
  • preventing fraud, abuse, or misuse
  • adding or improving functionality where this does not unreasonably disadvantage users

Such changes will not impose additional costs on you solely because of the change.

Where applicable law requires updates, including security updates, we will provide them for the period required by law.

If a change materially impairs your ability to access or use Cardo, we will provide advance information in the manner and within the period required by applicable law. Any statutory rights you have in connection with such a change, including any applicable right to terminate the agreement, remain unaffected.

8. Usage limits

Some Cardo features may be subject to reasonable technical or usage limits.

For example, AI-assisted features may have limits intended to protect the availability, security, and sustainable operation of the Service.

You must not attempt to circumvent such limits.

9. Suspension, termination, and account deletion

We may temporarily restrict or suspend access where reasonably necessary to protect Cardo, its users, or third parties, including in cases of serious or repeated violations of these Terms, fraud, abuse, security threats, or unlawful activity.

Where a violation can reasonably be remedied, we will normally take the circumstances into account and, where appropriate, provide an opportunity to remedy the issue before taking permanent action.

We may terminate an agreement only to the extent permitted by applicable law. Any mandatory rights you have as a consumer remain unaffected.

You may stop using Cardo at any time.

You may delete your account through the Cardo mobile app. Account deletion is permanent and deletes associated active Cardo application data as described in our Privacy Policy.

10. Third-party services

Some Cardo features depend on third-party providers, including providers of authentication, infrastructure, or AI services.

The availability and technical operation of those external services may affect certain Cardo features.

Nothing in this section excludes or limits Cardo's responsibility where Cardo is legally responsible for the acts or omissions of a service provider.

For information about service providers that process personal data, please see our Privacy Policy.

11. No guarantee of learning outcomes

Cardo is a learning tool.

We do not guarantee any particular educational, academic, examination, language-learning, professional, or other learning outcome from using Cardo.

Learning results depend on many factors outside Cardo's control.

Cardo is not a substitute for professional educational, medical, legal, financial, or other professional advice.

12. Liability

Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

We are liable without limitation:

  • in cases of intent or gross negligence
  • for culpable injury to life, body, or health
  • where liability arises under the German Product Liability Act
  • where we have fraudulently concealed a defect
  • where we have expressly assumed a guarantee to the extent covered by that guarantee
  • in any other case where liability cannot legally be excluded or limited

In cases of slight negligence, we are liable for the breach of material contractual obligations whose fulfillment is essential for the proper performance of the agreement and on whose fulfillment you may regularly rely. In such cases, liability is limited to the foreseeable damage typical for this type of agreement.

In other cases of slight negligence, liability is excluded to the extent permitted by law.

13. Privacy

Our processing of personal data is described in the Cardo Privacy Policy available at:

https://trycardo.com/privacy

The Privacy Policy explains how personal data is processed and is separate from these Terms.

14. Changes to these Terms

We may propose changes to these Terms where reasonably necessary, for example because of changes to Cardo, legal requirements, security requirements, or the introduction of new functionality.

We will inform you of material changes in an appropriate manner and with the notice required by applicable law.

Where your consent to a change is legally required, the change will not become binding on you unless the required consent has been obtained.

Your statutory rights remain unaffected.

The date at the top of this page indicates when these Terms were last updated.

15. Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the Federal Republic of Germany, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods.

If you are a consumer, mandatory consumer protection provisions of the country in which you habitually reside remain unaffected.

Statutory rules regarding jurisdiction apply.

16. Language versions

These Terms may be made available in multiple languages for accessibility and convenience.

The different language versions are intended to have the same meaning. Nothing in a translated version limits any mandatory rights available to you under applicable law.
